Burna Boy Makes History as First African Artist to Top Billboard Global 200 Chart

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has made music history by becoming the first African artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart. The Grammy Award-winning singer achieved the milestone with “Dai Dai,” his official FIFA World Cup collaboration with Colombian music icon Shakira.

The hit song currently sits at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. charts, highlighting its massive worldwide success. In addition, “Dai Dai” climbed 12 places to reach a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, marking another major achievement for Burna Boy’s international career.

Another Nigerian music star, Tems, is also making waves on the global charts. Her hit single “What You Need” jumped five spots to a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after spending 15 weeks on the chart.

The song has also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart, making Tems the first solo African artist to achieve both milestones.
